I'm hoping to attend school for animation (I'm a junior in high school right now, just started looking at schools). What is the most challenging part about your work? And how prepared were you going into school? (Like, portfolio wise I guess)

I hope it’s okay with you if i post this publicly, since i want anyone else aspiring to become an artist to see this too

The hardest part about being an animation student is competition, and “acceptance”.

Unless you’re somewhere halfway between decent and “amazing”, people will  criticize your career path, and muting that out is just a matter of showing them what you got and accepting that you’ll grow as an artist.

You also gotta consider that there are lots of people out there with skills that could be just as good or even better than you, so never ever make the mistake of thinking you’re good enough that you dont need to improve anymore

Love to improve, love your art, and challenges will turn to joy rather than hardships

As for going into my course, i actually had a folio built up already, but unless you’re applying for a big name art academy, i DONT think you need much in the way of a folio.

Good luck by the way! Im rooting for ya if you’re really going for an art school! There’s few bigger joys than drawing for a living :)
